Environment
From the environment point of view the Ostrava airport tries to keep the valid legislation as well as a prevention and it is also trying to minimalize impacts on the environment.
The impacts on the environment are not deteriorating even with the growing traffic at the airport.
Noise
The Ostrava airport, a.s. Has a compiled study considering noise produced by planes and its impact on the environment. It follows that to the future will not be necessary to reduce the flight traffic and announce a noise restrictions.
At the airport can only land and také off planes equiped with fuels in accord with the legislation of EU. Exceptions can be authorized only by the Ministery of transport of the Czech Repubic.
Handling dangerous waste
The Ostrava airport a.s. is also a producer of dangerous waste. The vast majority comprises waste from the planes, is included in dangerous waste becase of the potential risk of infection. Disposal of dangerous waste is done in accord with legislation.
Athmoshere protection
The Ostrava airport a.s. is only a small or medium source of air pollution. That includes
stokeholds for heating the buildings at the airport. As fuel is used natural gas.
These sources are regularly monitored by measuring emissions (medium sources) and by controlling combustion chambers (small sources).
All the sources meet the valid legislation. In 2006 started a trial run of a new source of pollution to the air – gas stokehold for heating the new departure lounge. Measuring of emissions will be carried out in the first quarter of 2007 and after that it will be made a request for permission of constant operation. This source does not seem to have a major impact on the environment thanks to the modern technology.
Water management
In 2006 because of the request to connect the industrial zone Mošnov to sewerage system
the Ostrava airport carried out evaluation of current operation of ČOV by athorised person. The reconstruction started in February 2007 and the deadline is in May 2007.
In October 2006 the Ostrava airport signed an agreement with Water and sewerage systém Ostrava, inc. about operation of a public duct.
