Before arriving at the airport, every traveller should know the important rules arising from Commission Regulation (EC) 1546/2006, which set out the guidelines for transporting liquids within the EU.
Rule no. 1:
Liquids that are taken with you onboard the aircraft (cabin hand baggage) must be placed in a re-sealable bag, which has a maximum volume of 1 litre (the bag is available at the airport). One person is entitled to carry only one bag.
Rule no. 2:
Liquids contained in the re-sealable bags may only be stored in containers with a maximum volume of 100 ml.
Rule no. 3:
Every re-sealable bag must be removed from hand baggage and presented to security staff for inspection.
Rule no. 4:
Liquids in packaging larger than 100 ml can be transported in the baggage handed over at the check-in counter. This baggage will be stored in the cargo hold of the aircraft (this is the baggage not taken with you on board the aircraft) for the duration of the flight.
Exceptions:
It is possible to take liquids on board with you if they are necessary for medicinal purposes, or for reasons of special dietary requirements, including baby foods. In such cases it is essential that travellers do not take with them larger quantities than are necessary for the journey. Travellers may be required to taste the liquid when challenged by security staff in order to check its safety (e.g. baby food), or to present documents attesting to the origin of the liquid (e.g. in the case of transporting insulin, a written confirmation by a doctor or prescription in the name of the passenger).
Liquids are regarded as:
- water and other drinks, soups and syrups
- perfumes
- gels, including hair and shower gels
- pastes, including toothpaste
- creams, skin creams and oils

What you can take in your cabin hand baggage (taken with you when you board the aircraft):
