At Ostrava Leos Janacek Airport, construction work has commenced for the installation of new lighting and electro-energy runway systems. The objective is to increase the runway to category CAT II., i.e. the performing of more exact instrument approaching and landing during low visibility. Completion of the reconstruction is planned for October 2008.

On 24.9.2007 the CARGO TERMINAL at Ostrava Leoš Janáček Airport, situated on the south apron, was awarded its operating licence. The cargo terminal is intended for clearing cargo flights to and from Ostrava. Information released by the private investor ACO (Air Cargo Operations) suggests that it will start operating some time in November.
